Some wedding days are big and bustling… and some are beautifully simple in the very best way. Jessica and Johnny chose the latter, and it fit them perfectly. Their Kansas City elopement was relaxed, intentional, and overflowing with the quiet kind of love that speaks volumes. I had such a wonderful time documenting their day — every moment felt so authentically them.

We started at the Lenexa City Municipal Court, where they officially became husband and wife. They were actually the first ever wedding in the new building, which made the moment feel even more special. Just the two of them, three witnesses, and myself (with Bridget along to assist!) — simple, sweet, and full of heart.

After the ceremony, we made the dreamiest little stop at Billie’s Grocery for a snack-and-coffee break — and honestly, I’m still thinking about it. Everything was delicious (as always), and the whole space is just gorgeous. Light, airy, cozy… the kind of place that makes you want to linger a little longer. Their food and drinks are incredible, and it was the perfect way to slow down, refuel, and soak in the joy of the day. It’s definitely a spot I’ll be returning to again and again!

In the West Bottoms, they showed off their Mustang and gave us such cool, cinematic energy. And because they actually met through the ballroom dance world — and have known each other for years as friends — we definitely had them dance for us. Those candid dancing shots ended up being some of my favorites of the entire day. Their connection just glows.

We wrapped things up at Liberty Memorial, where the KC skyline showed off at sunset. It was the perfect way to close out such a meaningful, intimate day.

What I love most about Kansas City elopements like this is how personal they are. No pressure. No big production. Just two people, their story, and a city they love. Jessica and Johnny crafted a day that was true to them from beginning to end — and being able to document that kind of authenticity is exactly why I adore photographing weddings and elopements in Kansas City.
