If you’re a Kansas City high school senior in the Class of 2027, your senior photos should feel like you.
Not just pretty outfits. Not just smiling at the camera. Not just standing in a field because someone on Pinterest said so.
Your senior session should tell the story of who you are right now! What you love, what lights you up, and what makes you uniquely you.
For so many seniors, music is a huge part of that story. Whether you play an instrument, collect records, sing, perform, or simply can’t live without your playlists, bringing music into your senior photos is such a fun and meaningful way to personalize your session.
As a Kansas City senior photographer, I love helping seniors incorporate hobbies and passions into their photos. These are the images that feel personal, timeless, and unforgettable.

Why Bring Hobbies to Your Senior Photo Session?
Anyone can take a nice photo.
But when you bring in something meaningful? That’s when your session becomes yours.
Including hobbies in your senior photos:
- Makes your session feel natural and personal
- Gives you something to interact with during photos
- Helps tell your story during senior year
- Creates images that feel authentic years later
- Highlights your passions and personality
- Makes your gallery stand out from everyone else’s
Your senior year is such a specific chapter of life. It deserves to be documented honestly.

Kansas City Seniors Who Brought Their Love of Music
Some of my favorite senior sessions have included music in creative and personal ways.
Ava: Headphones + Monochrome Studio Vibes
Ava brought headphones to her session, and we created fun, simple monochrome portraits in the studio.
It was modern, playful, and such a cool nod to her love of music without overcomplicating anything. Proof that even one small prop can make a big impact.

Emma: Favorite Records in the Studio
Emma incorporated some of her favorite records into her studio session.
Records add personality, texture, nostalgia, and style all at once. It gave her photos an artistic, timeless feel while showing off something she genuinely loves.

Henry + Drew: Acoustic Guitars
Henry and Drew each brought their acoustic guitars.
There’s something effortlessly classic about guitars in senior photos. Whether seated, standing, or casually carrying them, instruments create movement and personality while showing an important part of who they are.

Ayla: Mills Record Company Session
With Ayla, we stopped into Mills Record Company and photographed her flipping through records and enjoying the shop.
This was such a fun way to blend personality with location. Instead of simply holding a prop, we documented her in a place that matched her interests and energy.
That kind of storytelling makes photos feel real.

Judah: Cello + Iconic Kansas City Locations
Judah brought their cello, and we paired it with two iconic Kansas City backdrops:
- National WWI Museum and Memorial skyline views at Liberty Memorial
- Kauffman Center for the Performing Arts
The combination was incredible.
The skyline gave the images a bold Kansas City identity, while the Kauffman Center was such a meaningful nod to music and performance, especially as home to the Kansas City Symphony.
These images felt artistic, elevated, and deeply personal.

Sophia: Flute + Wildflowers
Sophia brought her flute, and we paired it with a flowy dress in a field of wildflowers.
The result was soft, dreamy, and beautifully unique. It felt graceful and expressive—perfectly aligned with her personality and instrument.

Elizabeth: Violin at the Nelson-Atkins
Elizabeth brought her violin for photos at The Nelson-Atkins Museum of Art.
This pairing created a timeless and elegant feel. The architecture and artistry of the museum worked beautifully with the violin, making the entire session feel sophisticated and classic.

Be Yourself in Your Senior Photos
This is your permission slip to stop worrying about what everyone else is doing.
You do not need the same poses, same outfits, or same props as anyone else.
You need photos that feel like you.
Love music? Bring it.
Play an instrument? Absolutely bring it.
Collect records? Let’s use them.
Spend weekends at concerts? Let’s build around that vibe.
Want something creative and different? Even better.
The best senior photos happen when you show up as yourself.
