Actually, and this may surprise you, 99.99% of seniors are not models.
My job as your Kansas City senior photographer is not to expect you to magically show up knowing angles, expressions, or red-carpet poses. My job is to guide you, help you feel comfortable, and create photos that look natural, confident, and completely like you.
No Modeling Experience Required
You do not need:
- Modeling experience
- Practice poses saved on your phone
- Confidence in front of the camera (yet)
- A “photogenic side” already figured out
- Any idea what to do with your hands
You just need to show up. I’ll take care of the rest.
Why the Same Pose Looks Different on Everyone
Here’s something I love about senior sessions: I could give five seniors the exact same direction and end up with five completely different results.
Why? Because every senior is different.
Your personality, posture, confidence level, outfit choices, facial expressions, movement, and energy all change how a pose feels.
One pose that looks amazing for one senior might feel awkward for another. And that’s normal. That’s why I don’t believe in forcing cookie-cutter posing.
Instead, we adjust everything in real time based on:
- Your personality
- Your comfort level
- What you’re wearing
- Your location
- Your energy that day
- The vibe you want
- What feels natural on camera
That’s where the magic happens.
We Start Planning Before Session Day
One reason seniors feel more relaxed at their session is because we don’t just wing it.
We do a lot of prep ahead of time so you feel ready, confident, and excited when the day arrives.
Step One: Your Senior Questionnaire
We start with a questionnaire that helps me get to know you. We’ll talk about things like:
- Your style
- Ideas you already have
- What kind of vibe you want
- Locations if you have any in mind already
- Hobbies or interests to include
- Props you might want to bring
- What makes you feel most like yourself
This gives us a clear starting point and helps shape a session that actually fits you.
Step Two: Planning Call
Next, we’ll hop on a quick planning call. This is where we bring your vision to life. We’ll talk through all your ideas, I’ll give you suggestions, and help you narrow down and define the vision.
Step Three: A Session Designed for You
Once we’ve planned everything, I’ll build a custom game plan for your shoot.
That means by the time session day arrives, I already know:
- What energy we’re going for
- What poses may suit you best
- Which prompts will feel natural
- What locations fit your vibe
- How to help you feel comfortable quickly
You’re not meeting a stranger with a camera. You’re meeting someone who has already gotten to know you. That makes such a difference!
What Happens During the Session?
You do not need to memorize poses.
I’ll guide you the whole time with easy prompts and direction like:
- Walk this way
- Look over your shoulder
- Fix your jacket
- Laugh at me being weird
- Lean here
- Play with your dress
- Shift your weight
- Think cool thoughts
(Okay, that last one is optional.)
We keep moving, adjusting, and finding what works best for you.
