When Luella booked her Main Character senior session, we knew we wanted to create a gallery that felt like her. The Main Character session includes 2–3 outfits and multiple locations, which gives seniors plenty of room to show off different sides of their personality.

But when I found out we’d be photographing Luella at her family’s farm, we realized we didn’t need to go anywhere else.

There was SO much to work with right there.

From her dogs and a swing to her Mini Cooper, hay bales, stone walls, an iron gate, wide-open fields, and the most gorgeous golden-hour light, we were able to create an entire variety of looks without ever leaving the property. And honestly? I love when a location gives us that much to explore.

Three Outfits, Three Completely Different Vibes

Luella chose three outfits for her senior session, and each one brought something completely different to her gallery.

We started with a more casual look: overalls and her dogs. Including her pups was important to her, so of course they had to make their grand appearance. We wandered around the property, played with the dogs, and made our way to the swing for some fun, relaxed photos.

This is one of my favorite things about senior sessions. We don’t have to force every photo to look perfectly posed. Sometimes the best images happen when we’re moving, laughing, exploring, or just letting someone be themselves.

Next, Luella changed into a denim top and white skirt, and we shifted into a totally different vibe. Her Mini Cooper made the perfect addition to this part of the session, and then we explored more of the property. And yes, we absolutely climbed onto the hay bales for some photos.

Because why have a beautiful farm available to us and not use the hay bales?

A Little More Classic for the Final Look

For her final outfit, Luella changed into a beautiful white dress, and the entire feel of the session shifted again.

We photographed her around the stone walls and a beautiful iron gate, creating some more timeless, elevated portraits. Then we headed out into the fields as the sun started to set.

And this is where the magic really happened.

The light was soft and golden, the fields stretched out around her, and we had that gorgeous end-of-summer evening glow that makes you want to stay outside just a little longer.

It was the perfect way to finish her session.

Why I Love Senior Sessions With Variety

One of the reasons I love the Main Character senior session is that it gives us room to tell a bigger story.

You don’t have to choose between casual and dressed-up. You don’t have to decide whether you want urban photos or something more natural. And you don’t necessarily need five different locations to get a gallery that feels varied.

Sometimes, the perfect senior session location is somewhere that already means something to you.

For Luella, that happened to be home.

Her family’s farm gave us so many different backdrops and opportunities that we could create completely different looks just by walking around and exploring. Add in three outfits, her dogs, her car, a little hay-bale climbing, and some incredible golden-hour light, and we had everything we needed.

And most importantly, we had fun.

That’s always the goal for a senior session with me. I want you to have photos that look amazing, but I also want the actual experience of taking them to be something you remember.
